Powering the Future: Advancing the Global Energy Transition with Battery Technology
IBS 2025 arrived at a turning point. Held on 5–6 August at Mulia Hotel, Jakarta, the summit convened at a moment when Indonesia’s battery story was no longer being written in boardrooms alone. It was being shaped by diplomats, scientists, ministers, and global manufacturers, all in the same room. For the first time, the conversations stretched beyond supply chains and into energy diplomacy, sustainability governance, and the question of what kind of battery nation Indonesia truly wants to become.
This session stressed human certification’s importance in the battery industry, while showcasing initiatives like 2W-EV conversion and NBRI’s skill enhancement efforts. Panel discussions highlighted the need for a battery association in Indonesia for industry growth, government support, and consumer awareness. These discussions underscore the event’s focus on advancing Indonesia’s battery ecosystem and EV industry.
This session emphasized standardization’s key role in addressing global battery and EV challenges. Indonesia’s comprehensive EV standards and HIOKI‘s safety commitment were discussed. Efforts by State-Owned Enterprise Holding ID Survey and JICA’s electric motorcycle project were highlighted, underlining Indonesia’s dedication to high-quality EV and battery technologies.
This session highlighted circular models for clean energy transition. Anthony emphasized recycling to tackle challenges, and George’s Li-Cycle solution focused on strategic battery recycling. Panel discussions introduced repurposing standards and innovative recycling initiatives like NESTI and phytomining, emphasizing sustainable resource management and innovative solutions for a cleaner energy future.
This session showcased sustainable mobility solutions in Indonesia’s EV ecosystem. Smart city concepts, global EV industry insights, Bali’s EV adoption strategy, and collaborative efforts were highlighted. The significance of efficient charging infrastructure, battery swapping, and battery energy storage for railway transport were discussed. These discussions underscore Indonesia’s commitment to advanced and sustainable mobility solutions.
This session highlighted PT. PLN Persero’s support for the EV ecosystem, DEN’s commitment to low carbon energy, and insights from panelists on advanced battery tech, renewable power revolution, and sustainability in the heavy-duty industry. These discussions emphasize Indonesia’s strides towards a greener and technologically advanced energy future.
This session highlighted robust government support for EV adoption, IBC’s initiative for a comprehensive battery ecosystem, and Thermo Fisher Scientific‘s role in maintaining battery quality. Panel discussions showcased NBRI’s battery research, ABC‘s commitment to local development, and BAK‘s advancements. These efforts illustrate Indonesia’s dedication to advancing its sustainable and technologically advanced battery and EV industry.
A landmark announcement, “The Strategic Alliance Towards EV Battery Manufacturer is Progressing”, was made during the summit, marking a significant step in Indonesia’s journey toward becoming an integrated EV battery producer.
Multiple sessions dedicated to embedding ESG principles from mining to recycling, alongside net zero strategies through sustainable production, carbon footprint measurement, and lifecycle thinking across the entire battery value chain.
Two additional MoU signings at the summit — with POSIND and Dayalima — expanding NBRI’s strategic network and reinforcing the summit’s role as a platform where partnerships are not just discussed, but formally committed to.
An exclusive Gala Dinner brought together ministers, industry leaders, ambassadors, and global investors for high-level networking, award presentations, and cultural exchange — strengthening relationships across the IBS community.
